Safe Social Media

The Opinions of Parents

We have collected, through a questionnaire, the views of parents who were willing to fill it out. The project Safe Social Media has been very well received by families involved through the schools. They are very pleased that schools have offered an educational program addressed to teenagers in order to empower them towards a safer and responsible use of social media.

“The project has let us understand important information about the digital world in which our teens are immersed producing a more responsible and aware use of social media in our family”; “ I’m sure it was very important to take part in Safe Social Media because there is already too much violence, and through this project our teens have received many tips to help them not to be violent and to respect others”; “because prevention is better than cure, clearly one has to learn how to prevent”; “ The project has enabled us to know the risks which our children are faced with every day”.

The educational program was appreciated for its commitment and for the positive content transmitted:

“My son was involved in a serious matter”; “I have appreciated this educational project which promotes and helps children to have a right and aware use of the internet, in the absence of a parent adequately prepared”; “Interesting meeting, I wish that it could be repeated more frequently to keep pace with the changes a frantic network in the digital world”.

Parents recognized and appreciated the topics discussed within the program and highlighted the following as essential for the proper upbringing of teenagers:

“Safety and conscious use of resources”, “careful not to socialize with strangers”, “privacy”, “the knowledge, accountability and parental example”, “making teens be more aware that with the social media as it is today, they must not think once, or twice, but twenty times before they post”, “They know the dangers that may arise: the importance of privacy with regards to personal data, time of use”; “not to communicate with strangers on the net, trying to reduce the use of violent video games and promoting safe use of the web”; “both parents and the schools should teach the kids about the information in the media in a detached and objective way, in order to be able to have a critical approach to express their ideas by talking with their parents, and to consider various sources. In a few words, help them to be able to give a personal and informed opinion of what is around them”.
