Educación: incertidumbre y creatividad PDF Print E-mail

Sir Ken Robinson (educador, escritor y conferenciante británico.

Si tienes miedo a hacer algo equivocado, nunca serás creativo.

Changing Africa from within PDF Print E-mail

Leadership transforms Africa, not aid

8 years after Gleneagles, Britain’s former prime minister Tony Blair writes that "Aid has transformed Africa" praising his own efforts and those of Bono and Bob Geldof, and that Gleneagles can “claim some credit” to whatever progress noticeable in Africa today (health, economy, education).  Yet there are those like Greg Mills writing from South Africa who argue that "Bob Geldof is wrong about Africa" and that instead of external aid, it is effort from within, such as improving governance and transparency that is helping Africa.

Much has been said about how corruption has made nonsense of so much money pumped into Africa from outside.  Corruption rears its head when despotic African leaders pocket money meant for development, and when aid agencies spend more on internal bureaucracy and staff benefits than on the real needs of Africans.

Educating Digital Natives: Understanding the Digital Generation

CATALYST: Changing Society Through Character Education

More than 5,000 teachers in the Philippines attended the presentations of a world-renowned speaker on “understanding the digital generation” last January 31 to February 2, 2013. Over the course of the past 10 years, Ian Jukes has worked with clients in more than 40 countries and made more than 8,000 presentations typically speaking to between 300,000 and 350,000 people a year. His trip to the Philippines was organized by CATALYST for Professional Development, an organization that tries to make an impact in society by pushing character formation and organizing development seminars for teachers.

This 3-city tour was a follow up to last year’s successful seminar with Dr. Harry Wong which was attended by more than 8,000 teachers from all over the country. Dr. Wong, who spoke about “How to be a Successful and Effective Teacher”, authored the best-selling book, “First Days of School”.

CATALYST started as a student organization at the University of Asia and the Pacific in 2009. Among its past projects included chastity and pro-life conferences with international speakers like Jason Evert in 2010, attended by 8,000 students; “Theology of the Body” expert Christopher West, with more than 1,000 students; and Leah Darrow and Christopher Stefanick with 15,000 students.

Their next big activity is a national forum on student achievement and character formation which will feature three international speakers. See www.catalystmanila.org

Mann Rentoy founded the group with the idea of mobilizing young people to bring about positive change in society. He himself has been going to different cities in the Philippines giving seminars to teachers on character education. He is associated with a group of American educators based on Washington DC, USA. www.character.org
